"Viva malasaña!!! Viva galicia, viva madrid, viva españa, viva holanda... Viva calvin... Puta cat..." SMS received from Andres on 11/11/07 02:33
In my previous post I ended it with saying that I hope Andres would pick me up from the airport in Madrid. Well, Andres wouldn't be Andres if he didn't call me at 8 AM in the morning to tell me he was still in bed... okay so instead of him picking me up I went to his place to pick him up. After having a coffee we started a long long walk through the city. We have seen so many things... I can't even remember them all. But having slept only for 2 hours the night before (I had to take the nightbus of 4 AM to the airport, while I was walking to the bus I met Lemke again... in the middle of the night...), I was totally wrecked after lunch... unlike in Catalunya it is not a shame to have a siesta after eating... so I passed out for a while. The more south you go in Spain, the more of the spanish clichés you will encounter. In Madrid people seem to only think about 3 other things than sex: food, alcohol and siesta. Coming from Catalunya I only took a siesta once, but the food and alcohol are inevitable. In the center of Madrid, which is huge by the way, there are so many tapas bars where a lot of people eat and drink during the evening... it's a whole different world for me. Madrileños sleep during the day until lunch time (which begins at 3 PM), get up to eat, do something for a few hours before going out again to eat and drink, until 6 in the morning. On Saturday Andres had to go back to Galicia, so I went to Chema's place with my luggage. He and Sandra were having a hangover so it took a few hours (until 5 PM) before they were ready to go to the center. We met Chema's friends from Barcelona, so we were with 10 people having coffee in a bar. Later that evening Manu, Lola and 2 other guys joined us, which meant the group consisted of 14 people. Well... try to do something fast with 14 spaniards... im-pos-si-ble! We managed to visit some bars anyway, quite an accomplishment... The next morning Sandra, Chema and I went to El Rastro, one of the biggest flea markets in Europe. Later that day we went to visit the Buen Retiro park, where a lot of people gather on Sunday afternoon. There Chema's friends joined us again to have dinner at Chema's place. On monday morning Sandra and the rest of the Barcelona group had to catch the plane back, so I went on sightseeing by myself. Later that afternoon I met with Chema and Manu to accomplish my mission in Madrid: to obtain a photo of myself wearing the FC Barcelona shirt inside the Santiago Bernabeu stadium of archrivals Real Madrid. Well... the mission was succesful, there are multiple photos and even a video! But the video was not finished because the security warned me and told me to put on my jacket again... since I was not in the mood to get my ass kicked, I complied. As Tom challenged me to do this with the promise to pay my return ticket to Holland (see the comments in the post of September 11th), my return is hereby guaranteed...
